The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. These healthcare providers may include (but are not limited to) doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical and nursing assistants, and other allied healthcare personnel.

This course is a prerequisite for advanced courses in resuscitation, including ACLS and PALS.

The course comprises 36 Lessons and teaches the skills of CPR and choking for victims of all ages, including ventilation with barrier devices, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask devices with supplemental oxygen, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators. A 62- page BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course. For successful completion of the course, participants are expected to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED use and obtain a score of at least 84% in the final written evaluation.

The Course is CPD accredited by the HPCSA for 11 CEUs.

Please note the following policy regarding the cancellation of courses.
    1. The NWU FHS TC has the right to cancel a course and will, as far as possible keep you informed, if and when such an event takes place.
    2. In such an event as mentioned above, the course fees paid to the NWU will be refunded or
    3. Credit will be retained, and the course will be rescheduled

In the event that the participant cancels the course, the following rules will apply:
    1. Any cancellation received by the office, more than 12 weeks prior to the course will be accepted and the participant will be entitled to a full refund minus a 20% admin fee.
    2. If the participant has already received their books and study material - 50% of the course fee will be refunded.
    3. Any cancellation received by the office, less than 12 weeks prior to the course will not be accepted and the participant will not be entitled to any refund.
