Participants must be in possession of a valid AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS Provider Certificate.

ACLS is a practical, simulated, case-based course that will enhance resuscitation skills and the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest patients. Ideal performance is initially demonstrated by video and Instructor. Learning is then facilitated by extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios, guided by positive and constructive feedback.

Candidates will be equipped to recognize and initiate the management of cardiac arrest and peri- arrest conditions. Participants will be able to apply a systematic and algorithm-based approach to the management of all different arrhythmias including tachycardias and bradycardias as well as cardiac arrest rhythms like ventricular fibrillation, pulseless ventricular tachycardias, pulseless electrical activity and asystole. Candidates will be able to identify and treat ischemic chest pain, expedite the care of acute coronary syndromes and stroke, and provide effective initial care- and-transfer to reduce disability and death. Participants will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills and leadership of a resuscitation team. Preparation for this course is vital and we recommend pre-course reading to start 30 days before the scheduled course.

The Course is CPD accredited by the HPCSA of 30 CEUs.

Please note the following policy regarding the cancellation of courses.
    1. The NWU FHS TC has the right to cancel a course and will, as far as possible keep you informed, if and when such an event takes place.
    2. In such an event as mentioned above, the course fees paid to the NWU will be refunded or
    3. Credit will be retained, and the course will be rescheduled

In the event that the participant cancels the course, the following rules will apply:
    1. Any cancellation received by the office, more than 12 weeks prior to the course will be accepted and the participant will be entitled to a full refund minus a 20% admin fee.
    2. If the participant has already received their books and study material - 50% of the course fee will be refunded.
    3. Any cancellation received by the office, less than 12 weeks prior to the course will not be accepted and the participant will not be entitled to any refund.
